Compressed Air System for New Truck Workshop

Protranz recently opened a new truck workshop in Ruapuna, Christchurch, incorporating the team of engineers, mechanics, and paint shop in one space.

Protranz has always used compressed air and knew exactly what they wanted for the new building. They needed reliable, consistent air flow, no pressure drops, and a clean, tidy install.

Overview

Protranz required a high-performing compressed air system for their new truck workshop in Ruapuna, Christchurch. With multiple engineering, mechanical, and paint shop operations under one roof, they needed a reliable and consistent air supply completely free of pressure drops. The system had to be installed efficiently, ensuring a clean and unobstructed setup in a demanding industrial environment.

The client

Protranz are an end-to-end project partner, delivering comprehensive solutions from initial design through to final construction. Their expertise spans asbestos removal, demolition, civil construction, transport, three waters infrastructure, and engineering fabrication. They are big enough to handle everything from design to build yet small enough to provide the care your project deserves.

The challenge

The large building posed various challenges for installing airlines, featuring high bay doors, concrete walls, and a truck pit. Wanting to get it right the first time, Protranz had a clear plan of where all outlets should be. They also wanted a clean and tidy install that wouldn’t have to be modified or changed at a later date.

The solution

We worked closely with Protranz to develop an efficient, robust compressed air system that met all the workshop's needs. The plant and piping layout was meticulously planned and installed so the workshop and spray booth had everything that was needed with no later changes.

The results

A great outcome around was achieved with a Pneutech variable-speed, permanent magnet rotary screw compressor. We also incorporated a Pneutech refrigerated dryer and 2-stage filtration, all installed in a designated shed. Pneutech Alu Air piping was used throughout the building, including in the truck pit for a high flow, clean and consistent air supply for the Protranz team.
