Is your factory safety conscious?

January, 16 2019 IAS Admin
Well look at us! Already two weeks into the new year, and feeling pumped up for what 2019 has in store for us. So let's start the year off on the right foot - as Gandhi once said, "The future depends on what we do in the present."

Do you regard the well-being of your employees as of utmost importance? Is it at the forefront of your mind?

If so, we have one chief question for you: Is your factory safety conscious?

Here at Industrial Air Systems, we know full-well how time-consuming and costly maintaining a safety conscious environment can be, but we also know how significant and essential it is to do just that. After all, a lack of safety awareness within a workplace can lead to serious downtime, not to mention putting your highly-valued staff at serious risk of injury in some circumstances.

So let us make this a little easier for you.

Filtration

The air produced by compressors usually contains water, dirt, and other unwanted particles that can contaminate plant and equipment, resulting in downtime and high maintenance costs. Breathing this air without the correct filtration can be toxic and leave a life-time of health issues for the user. Compressed air filtration must always be installed in sequence for efficient, reliable, and safe operation.

The PneuTech PF series industrial filters provide a solution to these problems and when correctly installed will delivery consistent clean, dry air with minimal upkeep.

PF series filters are designed to cover a diverse range of applications and capacities from 34cfm-1625cfm including breathing, instruments, process, and food-grade compressed air to Class 1 quality. These units are industrial-rated, with an auto-drain and differential gauge.

Some of the benefits of the PF filters are:
  • Precision differential pressure gauge to determine filter element saturation.
  • Large port thread sized for higher flow.
  • Strong cast alloy body for fast heat dissipation.
  • Large pleated filter construction for greater contaminant retention, increasing performance.
  • High efficiency and robustly constructed micro glass fibres.
  • High resistance drainage layer for longevity and higher operating temperatures.
  • Non-corrosive end caps for sterile air.
  • Sensitive auto-condensate drain for stress-free operation.

PF075 1 1/2" 320cfm $580.00 + GST.
PF100 2" 468cfm $680.00 + GST.

Industrial Air Systems offers air filtration designed specifically for use in breathing applications. These units include three separate elements - a microfilter, catalyst, and carbon filter - which are supplied as a package.

B-AIR 0106 3/4" 70cfm $980.00 + GST.
B-AIR 0186 1" 116cfm $1,840.00 + GST.

Paint air filtration is essential for spray applications. This filtration eliminates unwanted elements such as dirt, water, and oil from the compressed air flow, optimising the purity of the air, and therefore reducing the risk of patches in the application.

Blow Guns

Blow guns are used in everyday applications and are ideal for cleaning unwanted debris away from a targeted area. However, they bring with them an element of risk as debris can reflect off the targeted surface and bounce back onto the operator. Safety blow guns eliminate this unnecessary hazard by creating an air blanket around the application, avoiding the possibility of deflecting debris, and therefore creating a safer working environment for the user.

P200.401.000
Silenced flow multiplier, plastic nozzle, 250L/min.
$26.00 + GST.
P200.301.000
Silenced, safety, plastic nozzle, 205L/min.
$27.00 + GST.
P100.201.000

Safety Slide Couplings

The use of safety slide couplings as opposed to standard couplings ensures that there is no accidental or sudden disconnection and resulting air blast during or after operation. The safety slide couplings require two unlocking steps by the user before disconnecting the applicator from the hose, Step 1 releases the built-up air pressure in the hose, step 2 releases the coupler.

Air Quality Analysis

In today's health and productivity-conscious environment, the quality of your compressed air is very important to protect the health of people and animals that may come into contact directly or through a product of the compressed air. For food and breathing air quality Standard ISO 8473.1 is the internationally-accepted level of compliance.

Why should your compressed air be tested?

An Air Quality Test will provide you with an accurate reading and report of the major contaminants found in your compressed air supply. From here you can make an informed decision to correctly remedy the contamination for optimum productivity and to meet mandatory compliance standards.

It's the difference between breathing air on a dusty construction site, or when standing on the peak of a snow-capped mountain.

So, we need quality compressed air. But what is quality air?

There are several areas we look at when checking compressed air quality:
  • Water content in the air.
  • Oil content in the air.
  • Dew point / pressure dew point.
  • Dust / contaminations including micro-organisms and odour.
  • Minor gases - Carbon Dioxide (CO2), Carbon Monoxide (CO), Oxygen (O2) levels.
All of these elements together contribute to the overall compressed air quality.

High-quality compressed air means:
  • Healthier, safer, more productive staff.
  • Higher product quality.
  • Higher plant reliability.
  • Higher longevity.
  • Lower maintenance costs.
  • Lower breakdown costs.

Air compressors utilise oil to lubricate the moving parts of the air pump. This means there is usually oil contamination in the air supply called oil carry-over.

Other harmful fumes such as carbon monoxide can be inhaled by the air compressor and add to the already toxic air supply.

This air contamination if present, needs to be effectively removed by correct filtration, if you are to guarantee the safety of your staff, consumers, and equipment.
